Reproducibility Study - Phase II

Thanks to all the people who took part in this study we showed 10 out of 17 labs who ran gels of the same sample generated images within a 95 percent confidence level using the protocol and support from the study co-ordinators1. Read the initial results  presented at the HUPO 2009 meeting in Toronto and look out for the follow up articles that highlight the aims and findings of the study.

Tools and approaches from the study

These allow you to 'calibrate' your own 2D gel running setup and help make your proteomics results reproducible across-labs so we will share them as each one becomes available. If you have any comments and questions you can always email us.

The HeLa Cell Standard can be supplied on request while stocks are limited but there are plans to make it freely available. We'll let you know when you can get some off-the-shelf.

Download  the protocol that all participants used in the study. By running the HeLa Cell Standard with this protocol and using Gel QC analysis to compare the results of your gel running with a set of well run "reference images" you can see how well your 2DE is working. This is the first step in our 4-steps to Fixing Proteomics.

The tools we used to perform the 2DE gel image QC analysis were subsequently developed into a user-friendly workflow, as part of the Progenesis SameSpots software, provided by Nonlinear Dynamics. Further information and a free download can be found on the Nonlinear Dynamics website.
