Experimental design for Proteomics, Step 2

How do you find out who is the tallest?

If you wanted to find out whether children in the USA were taller than children in the UK, you wouldn't take an incredibly accurate measurement of one child from the USA, do the same to a child in the UK and make a conclusion based on this. Obviously not. But how many proteomics experiments have you seen where only one replicate was used and a conclusion about a biological population drawn?

Even when measuring with exceptional accuracy, we still need to run many biological replicates to be able to make valid conclusions about biological populations.
